The Dr. Jose Rizal OLA opened in July of 2001. The area is located at 1008 12th Ave S on North Beacon Hill and encompasses an area in the lower portion of Dr. Jose Rizal park or the area also known as the East Duwamish Green Belt north of South Holgate Street to I-90/Dr. Jose Rizal Park. Only the northern portion of the off-leash area near Dr. Jose Rizal Park has been fenced. The fenced area is bounded by I-5 to the West and I-90 to the North.
This off-leash area offers spectacular views of Puget Sound looking west and the Seattle Downtown skyline looking north. The fenced area is accessed from a sloping trail at the north end of Dr. Jose Rizal Park. This main access trail is compact gravel and can be followed over rolling contours. Much of the fenced area is overgrown with invasive weeds such as blackberries and our goal is to replace these large overgrown areas with open space for dogs to run and trails that extend to South Holgate.
Work parties are generally held on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 - 12:00. Check the COLA Web Calendar or the Kiosk at the main entrance of the OLA for information on the next work party. Drinking water for dogs is located down along the main trail.
